Blue bell fields forever

Blue bell fields forever

Originally uploaded by .koltregaskes

The blue bells (and buttercups) have sprouted up everywhere here in Edenbridge! This is the field behind our local vet. There is a small wood on the other side of a stream and this is the edge of the woods. Behind me is a field of buttercups, to the left of me is a hill leading to the railway track and to the right of me is a field full of sheep. :-)

To me this shot looks like it’s an HDR image but I can ensure you that it’s not and most of the processing was done in Camera Raw with some tweaking in Photoshop.

Shot taken with my Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens, which I’ve not used in ages!

New Peony

This peony popped up in the garden recently. I got it while it had a bit of sun on it (we don’t get much sun in the back garden).

This was taken with my Sigma 105mm macro lens on a tripod - I do like taking macro shots. :-)

Long grass

This is the ‘new’ field I take Kaz to. The grass is really long so Kaz is having great fun jumping and running through it all. I took this shot from low down and upped the contrast… a lot. :-)

This field was full of yellow buttercups at the time, wonderful colors, and still is - though the grass is even longer! I’m wondering when exactly they’ll cut it.

Water beads

I thought this might be a good one for black and white and pleased at the result. I converted it in Camera Raw (I do a lot of work in raw nowadays), then used dodge/burn to unhide the shaded bits.

The original was taken on an overcast day and it had just stopped raining. The plant is something I found in the back garden, weed probably. :-)

Dark and dirty

Dark and dirty

For some reason this shot came out really dark (no idea what I did) but I went with it and created this pic of Kaz, my Golden Retriever, after he stuck his head in a muddy pond.

I’ve recently been taking him to a new place behind our vet. It’s near a field of sheep but completely fenced off so he doesn’t cause them any grief. It’s a long walk to get to it and so is very quiet, though the odd train going by does break the silence. It’s also near the oh-so-lovely sewage works but I don’t really notice it.

You get a pretty good view as the field is on a hill so I hope to put up my shots from it.

Arabian Beauty by JMJJenci

Photo by digital photographer JMJJenci. Lovely image showing beauty and hiding it as well. If you like this photo, take a look at more in his DeviantArt gallery.

Reflections by angelzofdeath

Very cool image here by Deviant angelzofdeath. I like the way the image of this beautiful landscape is reflected in the glasses rather than photographed straight on. Not just an ordinary vacation photo, now it’s a piece of art!

Check out more photography by angelzofdeath in her DeviantArt gallery.

Charcoal Nightmare by 50v3r31gn

charcoal_nightmare_2_by_50v3r31gn.jpg

A gruesome charcoal drawing by 50v3r31gn. You can’t help but feel bad for this guy staring at his own body parts on display. He’s horrifying but he also looks sad. Very subtle, creepy image.

Have a look at his DeviantArt gallery for more macabre drawings.

Welcome Deviant Artists!

deviantartlogo.jpgIn an effort to bring a more diverse array of artists to Dark Matter Magazine, we’ve decided to tap some of the talented people on the web’s biggest and best online art community DeviantArt.com. Ranging from amateur to professional, each of the artist interviews featured here are linked to their DeviantArt galleries. We will also be showcasing individual artworks by several Deviants this week.

“Rest Stop” ©

The idle of diesel engines, dogs straining at the end of their leash looking for a bit of grass, children scurrying to the concrete buildings that signal relief after hours in the car, all going on with this view in the distance at the "Rest Stop".
