Arizona Buying Trip

Just got back from Arizona on a Wheel buying spree looking for as many Factory Original Wheels and Rims that we could find. It was a real tough trip as we went through several cities including Phoenix, Tucson, Chandler and Glendale AZ. to find some great inventory to fill our truck.

We ended up with a 26 foot truck load of Toyota Wheels, Ford Rims, Honda Wheels and Chevy Wheels to name a few. We also found a complete set of Classic Cadillac Wheels that are the true wire spoke type. This is the first set of these Cadillac Rims we have ever purchased for our warehouse. We are excited about getting these pictured and placed on our web site, OriginalWheels.com, with all of the specific information.

We plan to make one trip per month looking first at going to Texas, Oregon, Washington and Colorado in the next four months, so stay tuned and we will share with you about all of our travels. If you have any inside scoop on Factory Original Wheels for sale, please let us know.

OriginalWheels.com sells and ships Factory Original Wheels to the following states…

Proper Care for Wheels and Rims

We field many phone calls each week with questions ranging from the best way to clean or polish rims to removing the brake dust and rust from their wheels. We will try to cover all of the possible questions that might arise as you try to keep your wheels looking as new as they did when they rolled off of the showroom floor.

As for Steels Wheels that are usually covered completely by the wheel covers, it is not necessary to polish or clean this wheel. The only remote concern would be a little rust that may develop on older, classic steel wheels that would need removing with an abrasive wire brush and steel wool followed by some good quality paint to prevent further rusting. This situation is very rare and usually limited to antique or classic automobiles.

Chrome wheels on the other hand, are not covered or hidden by a wheel cover and do need regular attention so that they will not deteriorate or rust over time. When the chrome wheels are new, it is as simple as regular cleaning with soap and water followed by some spray or hard wax as a protectant to keep them looking new. Over time, if they do become a little tarnished, rusted or have brake dust build up that has possibly baked on from the heat of the road, you will need to do one of the following…

1) Use “Mothers Polish” with a terry cloth towel and a minor amount of muscle to clean off all of the build up on the wheels. Use only Mothers Polish in the tub or can, not the tube of paste. Always follow this with a spray or hard wax on a regular basis as described above so that you can prevent any further build up of any type on your rims.

2) An easier method is to do step one with a fine steel wool, (#0000) in place of the terry cloth not forgetting to protect and preserve with wax. This step takes even less work and muscle using the proper steel wool.

3) If the rust on your chrome rims is to the point that it is taking too much time and effort, you may want to visit your local auto supply store and look for a wheel cleaner with an acid base to spray on your chrome wheels to help brake down the rust to a point that you can easily do step one or two. Always do this step following the product directions in a well ventilated area. Another option is to pay your local car wash to do this step as they will have a professional grade of wheel cleaner to spray on your chrome rims, and please remember, that this step is only for chrome wheels and not for aluminum wheel finishes. Now do step one or two and you are finished with your chrome rims.

Aluminum Alloy Rims are usually the original wheels, stock wheels or OEM rims that came from the factory like Ford, Nissan or Toyota. These rims need the most specific care if you want them to stay looking nice and fresh. These alloy factory original wheels have a brushed finish that looks great but not a chrome finish that is like a mirror. The following is the only one proven way to clean and polish these wheels making sure not to leave stains that are almost impossible to remove…

1) Use “Mothers Polish” with a terry cloth towel and a minor amount of muscle to clean off all of the build up on the wheels. Use only Mothers Polish in the tub or can, not the tube of paste. Always follow this with a spray or hard wax on a regular basis as described above so that you can prevent further build up of any type on your rims. Do not use spray acid type cleaners nor steel wool on these aluminum alloy factory original wheels or rims.

Free Wheel & Rim Advice

Because certain questions and concerns come up on a regular basis regarding Wheels and Rims, we have listed below a few suggestions and free advice that should clear up most of your questions. We will also be updating this list regularly as Rim issues arise and we think it worthy to include here in our blog. Please feel free to contact us if something listed here is not clear to you or if we have not addressed a particular concern of yours about Wheels and Rims.

1) Determining Wheel Size The only way to figure out your Rim size is by locating the proper numbers and letters on the side wall of your tires. You should find something like, but not limited to, P205-75-R15. This example tells us that you have 15″ wheels on your car or truck. The last two numbers are what tells us the exact Rim size. Please do not measure your Wheels to determine the size. This will cause you many problems when ordering Wheels or Rims for your automobile.

2) Damaged Rims If you have minor scratches or scrapes on your wheels, do not be surprised. Most likely you have run your wheels up against a curb one or more times and even though you did not hear or feel it, this can make your rims look very used and possibly even bend the wheel out of round. If you have minor blemishes on the face of your wheels you can have them repaired or even do it yourself. If this is the case please visit our page on repairs here. If however, you have a bent rim, you will need to have it looked at by a repair shop with the proper equipment.

3) After Market Wheels Many people grow tired of a number of problems with their Original Wheels and they think they would just be better off with some new bright chrome after market wheels and that all their troubles will be behind them. Well, the truth is that even though the after market rims are new, different, and exciting, these rims are usually a cheaper made product that may rust, lose their hubcaps with no chance of finding a replacement or have problems with balancing and alignment.  Think carefully when making the decision to purchase rims that are not original to your vehicle. If none of the above listed problems bother you, then maybe the non original rims are for you.

4) Missing Lug Nuts We see vehicles on a daily basis with one and even more lug nuts missing on a Wheel or Rim. Sometimes this is because the owner has lost the lug nuts or have broken off the stud that the lug nut bolts on to. Either way this is a very dangerous situation and not so expensive of a job to repair or replace. Your wheels were engineered specifically and safely with all the lug nuts in place and need to be tightened exactly the right amount for the safety of the passengers and the other vehicles around you.

Acura Wheels & Acura Rims

Over the years Acura has made 13 models of cars with many different types of wheels, including the CL, EL, Integra, Legend, MDX, NSX, RL, RSX, RDX, SLX, TL, TSX and the Vigor. Acura has phased out all models except the MDX, RL, RSX, RDX, TL and the TSX, leaving us these 6 models in the great line up of automobiles to choose from. The older phased out models like the Integra and Vigor came from the factory stock with steel wheels and wheel covers along with an added extra for the OEM Factory Aluminum Alloy Acura Rims. Some Acura vehicles have factory original wheels that are a chrome finish instead of the natural aluminum alloy finish. For the most part these rims were sent out at some point along the way to be chrome dipped and an after market center cap was placed over the hub area to match the new chrome finish. If you prefer this type of chrome luster, it is truly far better to have the original Acura Rims dipped in chrome than to go out and buy some generic after market wheels that may involve problems for you in the future. Remember to look for chrome shops that specialize in wheels and rims only as this is their expertise.

The wheel and rim design team at Acura continues each year to come up with great new designs for all the models for us to enjoy. Many times it is the style of the wheels that catch our eyes when we are looking for that new car to drive. The future for strong car sales will truly be in the hands of those that can design the best looking wheels and rims to turn the heads of us who are in need, and the Acura team seems to have an upper hand in this area.

Customers that are in search of Original Rims for any make or model, foreign and domestic, will find OriginalWheels.com very eager to help you find an exact replacement for your vehicle.

We have been developing our site for the past year and a half and it has been one long project after another. Everyone here has had their hand in this site in one way or another, from design ideas to the actual purchasing of our inventory. This has truly been a long haul for all involved. April, our in house web expert, has had the bulk of the burden on her shoulders, having to do all the tedious research on each and every wheel and rim right down to the exact details of finish and measurements for each application. Our hats off to April for her hard work and patience in putting the final touches on our web site.

Our dream is to picture every Original Wheel that was ever made, with all the details even if we do not have the wheels in stock. We desire to build a network of wheel stores that we can ship from across the country so that we will be able to fill any request that has been placed with us.
