Ancap launching offshore round this week
MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY: Uruguay's state oil company Ancap is launching the licensing round for 11 offshore blocks this week, BNamericas reports.


Edison goes for Abu Qir concession
ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT: Italian energy company Edison International has signed an agreement with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. (EGPC) for the exploration, development and production rights for the Abu Qir concession offshore Egypt, north of Alexandria. The concession is for 20 years, and can be extended for another 10 years.


Shell drills world's deepest offshore well
HOUSTON: Shell has set a new record with the world's deepest offshore well. The subsea well is 9,356 feet (2,851 m) below the water's surface in the Silvertip field on Alaminos Canyon Block 815, part of the Perdido development in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The well was drilled by Noble semisubmersible Noble Clyde Boudreaux.


BHP completes Aragon 3-D survey
PERTH, AUSTRALIA: BHP Billiton completed the Aragon multi-client 3-D seismic survey in permit WA-351-P within the Exmouth Plateau offshore Australia, approximately 75 miles (120 km) north-northwest of North West Cape and 106 miles (170 km) west of Barrow Island.


Petrobras' P-53 begins production at Marlim Leste
RIO DE JANEIRO: Petrobras kicked-off operations at platform P-53 on Nov. 30, the first production unit installed in the Marlim Leste field in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil.


Stratic begins drilling at Cairngorm
LONDON: Stratic Energy Corp. started drilling on Nov. 29 at the Cairngorm discovery area in Blocks 16/2b and 16/3d in the UK Continental Shelf. Drilling operations are being carried out by Dolphin semisubmersible Byford Dolphin and should continue for around 50 to 60 days.


Leed finds double pay at Eugene Island A-8
U.S. GULF OF MEXICO: Leed Petroleum's Eugene Island A-8 well in the Gulf of Mexico has reached its total depth of 15,740 feet (4,797 m) and encountered commercial hydrocarbons in two primary well targets. The well is on Eugene Island Block 184/183 in 90 feet (27.4 m) of water, drilled by ENSCO jackup ENSCO 98.


Nordic Explorer completes 3-D sweep for Mitra
VUNG TAU, VIETNAM: PGS's M/V Nordic Explorer completed a 1,532-square-kilometre (592-sq-mile) 3-D seismic survey over Mitra Energy's Blocks 28 and 29/03 offshore Vietnam. The survey began on Sept. 21 and was completed in early November.

VUNG TAU, VIETNAM: Cuu Long Joint Operating Co.'s (JOC) Su Tu Vang oil project is scheduled to offload its first crude cargo later this week.


Late Songa Venus release delays MEO's Zeus spud date
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA: MEO Australia Ltd. is facing further delays on the drilling of the Zeus-1 exploration well in WA-361-P off Western Australia with the release date for semisubmersible Songa Venus now postponed to mid-December.
