Dave Rave - 8 Reasons I’m Thankful This Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is just a few days away and given where we are economically, socially, and globally, we may have to think a few minutes for things that we’re thankful for. But believe me. We have plenty of things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving no matter what the condition of your 401k stocks, or the future of your job may be. Here are some reasons why I’m thankful this Thanksgiving:
1. I’m thankful for my freedom. I live in a country in which freedom was bought by blood and sacrifice of those who have gone before me. I’m free to choose any profession, live in any neighborhood, and advance to any level my initiative and intelligence will take me.
2. I’m thankful for my faith. I have a strong, vibrant faith, not some religious artifact that was given to me as a child. God is real, with me, and present in my everyday life. I sense Him and see Him everywhere I go. I live in a country that gives me the freedom to worship God and call Him Yahweh and acknowledge that His son is Jesus.
3. I’m thankful for my family: for Paula, Erin, Lindsey, Paige, and my son-in-law, Steve. Those are the people who love me and believe in me even unto this day. Everything I achieve or do has meaning in my relationship with them.
4. I’m thankful for my friends: those people who have stuck beside me and cared for me and believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself.
5. I’m thankful for my church. The Gathering isn’t a perfect place. If it were they wouldn’t let me attend. But it is that special place that God is building and creating; this atmosphere of faith and joy and great accomplishment. Each and every week I get to walk with thousands of people who love life, love God, and love each other. What a privilege.
6. I’m thankful for the city I live in. I live in Nashville, Tennessee, to me one of the greatest cities in the world. I love the artistic flair and the freedoms that beat between the hearts of those who come here with dreams and aspirations.
7. I’m thankful for the freedom to dream and to achieve anything I am willing to work hard for over time.
8. I’m also thankful for God’s Word. It teaches me principles that apply in every place, for all time. Its Truth is the foundation of my life. Its wisdom guides me in my everyday decisions. Even in today’s financial turmoil, the Scriptures teach me financial principles that cannot be violated; simple ones like sowing and reaping, the ideas of generosity and investing; and the truth about abundance.
What are your reasons for being thankful this Thanksgiving? We certainly have many.
