24 Hour Eats
Other then Denny's, can anyone think of a 24 hour restaurant in the UNM area?
For sale: 2000 Ford Explorer XLT 6cyl 4.0 liter 4WD $3500
Everyone, I've broken down and decided to get a motorcycle. Something from the 80's, with about 75 to the gallon. In order to make this transition I need to sell off my Ford Explorer. If anyone is interested, the ad as I posted on craigslist is as follows:
"Four doors, 6 cyl, 4.0 liter OHV, 4WD. Cruise control, cd player, digital compass, keypad entry, electric locks, seats and windows, tinted windows. New full size spare. 160,000 miles. Just put in a brand new crankshaft, fuel pump, thermostat, battery, camshaft sensor, two new O2 sensors, MAF Sensor, fan belt, spark plugs, plug wires, and radiator. Tires were replaced a few months back. All electronics work. All it needs left is a head gasket replaced, which is easy (but time consuming) for a home do-it-your-selfer. I'll throw in the tear down manual which has step by step instructions for doing it. Also needs the driver side handles replaced, but this does not affect entry into the vehicle. This is a sturdy, strong little SUV, and if I didn't need the money I'd hang on to it to finish fixing it myself. The blue book for this car in worse condition than it is, is 4500 dollars for owner sale. It's worth more than that due the cost of new parts I just put into it. I'm letting it go for one thousand dollars cheaper than blue book with consideration to the work left to be done to it. I will add pictures later, or you can request some by email."
I'm posting it out here because I know a lot of people have been looking for vehicles lately. If you're comfortable digging around an engine, then you should have no problem with this one. The engine has undergone a half overhaul, and like the ad says, the little work left to do on it isn't too difficult. If you're interested, or know someone who is, you can contact me through LJ, at 505-304-1871, or at mkountz@hotmail.com.
Thanks in advance.

Albuquerque-Chicago: The ol' switcheroo
At least a couple of people in the past month or two have posted to this community and/or albuquerque saying that they're moving here from Chicago and looking for useful information on the city. Well, I live in Albuquerque and I'll be moving to Chicago in September.
Would any of you Chicago --> Albuquerque people who posted here looking for information on the 505 be willing to give me the lowdown on day-to-day life in Chicago? Even pointing me in the direction of active and useful Chicago LJ communities would be an excellent start.
A little about Yours Truly:- I'll be going to grad school at UChicago
- I'll probably be living in Hyde Park
- I love learning languages and eating food from around the world (including hot dogs)
- I love cooking
- I love roller derby
- I'm not a big drinker or clubber
Thank you in advance!
tonight! @ The Agency
Aerodrone is the side project of Gary Zon (of Dismantled), and it rocks. The Agency rocks. You'll rock if you come out.
Clutch!
Free shipping in Albuquerque - 'cause I live here :D
Indiscretion:

Haute Indiscretion:

Hip Stitch is a fabric/notions store with a very cool extra - it's also a sewing lounge! If you've ever read the book Sew Subversive or been to the sewing lounge in San Francisco, it's based on a similar idea. I went there the other day - it's on San Antonio - and took some pics:

They give sewing classes, and you can also pay to use their lounge - they have about 6 sewing machines, a serger, and a HUGE table in which to lay out all your stuff!
Looking for something fun to do Saturday night?

Featuring comedy, audience participation, poetry, bellydance, and headlining band North America. All this - plus door prizes and a silent auction - for only $5 or 2 or more canned goods? C'mon, it's for a good cause! Who are you to resist it, eh?
Hope to see you there!
The Gluey Brothers return! Plus other great things this weekend
TONIGHT!! This is one of the greatest bands that I know of in the history of music. You would do well to see them live. On friday the 8th, Mei Long releases their CD at Burt's Tiki Lounge, with a visual spectacular presented by Basement Films. This should be awesome. Starts around 9pm. On sunday, aug. 10th, I bring Spark_gap back to 2nd sunday of the month at The Agency (111 4th St. SW) to tie in with the Record Swap held there from 2-5pm. The Swap is open to all, if you wish to sell it's $5. Spark_gap will be featuring Justin George and Raine Vivian. Spark_gap is moving away from the electro jam aspect due to, well, lack of interest. So maybe you wanna take an interest now? Huh? *nudge* I also understand that Valient Thorr comes to the Launchpad on Monday - I'm psyched on this, as I've been wanting to see these guys live for awhile.
Art opening tonight @ The Agency

Pinball machine for sale!
Alrighty, I've gotten one of my pinball machines all cleaned up and running beautifully, so now I want to sell it so I can buy another one!

It's a Gottlieb Big Brave machine from 1974. It's "electromechanical", which means that it uses relays for all of its logic and xylophone-like chimes for its sound effects, as opposed to the modern "solid state" pinball machines that use circuit boards for their logic and electronic sound effects, and started appearing in the late 70s.
The machine is in beautiful shape, and plays great. The backglass is immaculate, the playfield is almost perfect with a few tiny nicks. As far as I known it's been "home use only" its entire life. A friend online who collects electromechanical pinball machines told me this is one of the best-condition Big Braves he's ever seen. Pictures of the machine are here:
http://flickr.com/photos/9958022@N03/tags/bigbrave/
I'd be happy to take additional pictures of any specific things on the machine you want to see.
The game was non-functional when I got it, but I've replaced weird parts with the correct Gottlieb parts, cleaned contacts, rebuilt steppers, replaced coil sleeves, replaced dead bulbs, etc., and now the game plays exactly the way it's supposed to. It's set on free play, and has no coin mech or coin box.
I'm asking $600 for it. If you're interested, please reply to this post and let me know!

Stuff for sale! (x posted)
Hi! I'm moving to Chicago and need to sell my car and LoveSac. Here are the links:
http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/car/774237249.html (car)
http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/fur/774264673.html (LoveSac)
I'm also organizing a yard sale soon. These are just the bigger items that I want to sell right away. Thanks!
Your advice needed, O Community!
My Compaq laptop, which is a Presario V2000 and about 3.5 years old, is having some serious problems. It's my only home computer, so I want to get it fixed promptly. Signs point to the heat sink or cooling fan, but it could be something else.
Can anyone recommend a good repair shop in town that could handle such a relatively old computer? I took it to PC Parts + once before and had a really terrible experience, so I'm reluctant to return there or give them more of my money, but all suggestions are very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Reminder: tomorrow night @ The Agency (July 29th)

Heh...
Apparently I have been banned by elegantelbow from posting on the albuquerque for pointing out a property realtor spammer in their midst. Which I find pretty funny since I'm not even a resident of the Albuquerque community and only watched it for community and non-profit event listings as a resident of the Santa Fe community.
But I guess that if a communtiy message board moderator considers highly targeted spam posts on their self-created forum as relevant, then who am I to judge?
The funniest part is that one of the biggest arguements for the inclusion of the original post tried to equate Brian Botkiller as a habitual spammer on that same forum (in a screened post by the moderator), that I defended because in my eyes, an event posting of any sort that most likely isn't going to make the promoter any money is totally fair to post... Where a post by a realtor, trying to hock a slew of obvious shitty house sales listing, on a community forum is total spam.
I'm just saying...
REMINDER: TONIGHT

lots of shows this weekend
Lots of upcoming shows this weekend:
ThouShaltNot is an industrial/synthpop project on the Dancing Ferret Discs label. Very slamming, should be fun.
I'll be playing with Ken Cornell (Alchemical Burn) for this show, and it is sure to be good fun.
The Venerable MKIO returns, with a killer light show, heavy beats and some serious energy. WORTH YOUR TIME!
Also, this show is at the Agency on Saturday the 26th, if you're not able to make it to Burt's - it's all ages!

Challenge me as hardest working mofo. Do it. I dare ya. :P

We provide the PA and Projector - you bring the beats, noise, video, laptops, drum machines or whatever else you got, and plug in. Keep an open mind and jam with others, find new music and have fun.
Spark_gap will take place on July 19th at The Agency. Doors are at 8:30pm. Players wishing to perform should plan on showing up at 8pm for load in/etc.
The event is all ages, and is $5. Various beverages (non-alcoholic) will be available.

Greetings, I'm new to the community but not to Albuquerque as I'm born and raised in the 505. Well, lets cut to the chase shall we? I'm a 24 year old guy who likes watching anime, playing videogames, wrestling, assorted other sports... kinda typical if I do say so myself. I've been having some problems keeping "friends" and have noticed that for the most part the people I meet online first have a tendency to be better friends than people I meet in more.... traditional ways such as school, work, bars, whatever.
I do have some problems as most people do.. For one, I very much dislike liars and am typically good at reading people. Some people who know me strictly online claim I am "moody", but what they dont see is that those moods have real catalysts.. I generally use my journal to tell funny stories or complain so I can understand why they feel that way.
Anyways, I am interested in meeting new people. Preferably those with similar interests but new people none-the-less.
If you have an X-box 360 or PS3 and would like to add me on those to play sometime (I am generally on Rock Band, Call of Duty 4 or Metal Gear Solid 4.
X-box: T3h Dark 3n3my PSN: FadingDream
Look forward to hearing from all those interested. Take care! William
Does anyone out there in Albuquerque-land know and remember Sifu Lin's tai chi form as taught by Dr Richard Holder at UNM? Either I've forgotten bits, or I've forgotten how to breath--either way, it is supposed to take me 26 minutes, not 11.
Pax
