What is RSS? What are Hubdates?
What is RSS?
Those little orange buttons labled “RSS” and “XML” are all over the web today. They look cool, but what are they for? In short,
RSS is a TLA (three-letter acronym) meaning “Really Simple Syndication.” An RSS feed is simply a standard of syndicating
frequently updated content from a website. If you want to make sure you know about all the latest updates on a particular website
as soon as they come out, just subscribe to that website’s RSS feed. Once subscribed, your RSS reader will receive up-to-the-minute
notifications every time the feed is updated.
What’s an RSS reader?
We knew this would be your next question. An RSS reader looks a lot like an email program. Instead of emails in its inbox,
however, you’ll receive all your RSS feed updates. You can set them to alert you with a pop-up window or even a funny sound
whenever a new update arrives. Or, if you prefer not to be bothered, you can disable the alerts and just check your inbox when
it’s convenient for you. Most web browsers now have RSS readers built-in, and there are also many stand-alone RSS readers
available for free download.
How do I get started?
Well, of course you would want the Yamaha Hubdates feed to be your first RSS. (The Hub / Updates - Hubdates...get it?) So, get yourself set up with an RSS reader or RSS-enabled browser or email application. Then, paste this xml URL in the appropriate field within your reader.
