Open Question: Beauty & Style: Could I Model?
I'm 16 years old. I don't mean a professional, runway model :p as if! I've got some recommendation from people in a model agency I got to know, to be a commercial model for catalogues and TV ads. Earn some money, get some experience, like a casual part time job. I'd like to but I don't really think its worthy to try and I will be laughed at :p
Do I have a chance?
Here is my photo album: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25494861@N05/3045678364/

Open Question: English need help plz?
Guides know about enough English to tangle everything up so that a man can make neither head nor tail of it. They know their story by heart—the history of every statue, painting, cathedral, or other wonder they show you. They know it and tell it as a parrot would—and if you interrupt, and throw them off the track they have to go back and begin over again. All their lives long, they are employed in showing strange things to foreigners, and listening to their bursts of admiration. It is human nature to take delight in exciting admiration. It is what prompts children to say "smart" things, and do absurd ones, and in other ways "show off" when company is present. It is what makes gossips turn out in rain and storm to go and be the first to tell a startling bit of news. Think, then what a passion it becomes with a guide, whose privilege it is, everyday, to show to strangers wonders that throw them into perfect ecstasies of admiration! He gets so that he could not by any possibility live in a soberer atmosphere. After we discovered this, we never went into ecstasies any more—we never admired anything—we never showed any but impassible faces and stupid indifference in the presence of the sublimest wonders a guide had to display.
from The Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain

Dear ....,
I read a collection of poems from the same author. All of the six poems are in a book called Poems of Fernando Pessoa, by Fernando Pessoa. The genre is poetry. Fernando Pessoa is a European poet from Portugal, and his style is modernist. He is one of the most famous poets of the twentieth century. The poems are called, “If I could have a bite of the whole earth”, “If you want to kill yourself, how come you don’t want to kill yourself”, “Recalling who I was, I see somebody else”, “To be great, be whole”, “Audible smile of the leaves”, and “It’s raining. There is silence, since the rain itself”.
The poem “If I could have a bite of the whole earth” talks about how he wants to see the world, and how he would like to know everything. In this poem Pessoa describes the world as something really beautiful, and he is a lover of earth and nature.
In the second poem he starts questioning life and identity. He also puts many negative thoughts, and suggests to others that the answer to life might be killing yourself, because no one needs you in this life. He says, “Maybe by ending it all, you will make a start…”, which means that if you die now things can turn out better for you, and there might be something after death. He also says, “Can’t you see, you’re not the slightest bit important?”, which means that no one really cares about you.
“Recalling who I was, I see somebody else” was a poem about how gets confused about his identity again. In this poem he tries to remember the past, and he cannot recognize himself, since he had changed so much over time. He is a different person than he was before, and everything that happened seems like a dream to him. The only thing that he can be sure about is the present.
The poem “To be great, be whole” is a short poem about a person being great. In order to be great, you have to be yourself, and put all that you are into every little thing you do. He says, “Put all you are into the smallest thing you do,” does it mean that you have to put all your effort into everything you do, in order to succeed?
The last poem is the one that I liked the most. “It’s raining. There is silence, since the rain itself”, is a poem that describes different aspects of rain. The author says that rain is something really peaceful and that sometimes it sounds like soft whispering. The last part I didn’t really understand, but I think that during rain we often feel emptiness inside, because there is something wrong with the rain. I liked it the most because it was the most nicely written.
All these poems kept the same style and focused mainly on the same ideas. The author talked a lot about nature and personified it in some parts. His poems focused on the beauty of our world, and also have this beauty can sometimes make us sad, and cheat on us. In one of the poems he compares life to day and night, he says that death isn’t something to be scared of, because in nature night is really beautiful.
A very important crisis that happens in most of his poems is the loss of identity. He is an author that asks many questions and he can never be sure who he really is, and what the reason is for living. In some parts he gets a really pesimistic view of things, but at the same time he manages to see bright things too.
I liked the author and his way of writing, altough in some parts I couldn’t understand the meaning of the poems. My favorite poem as I said was “It’s raining. There is silence, since the rain itself”. The modernist style of writing was something new to me and I thought that it was easy to read, and many times the poems were free-verse. I might recommend it to some people, but it depends on their taste of literarture. Overall, I would give this collection a rating of 7.
Sincerely,
Me..

There’s something about Barcelona… something captivating, something special, something irresistible. Without a doubt, our trip was an invaluable experience, and has taught us much about Spain and Spanish culture. From the stunning architecture of Gaudí to the masterpieces of Picasso, the abundance of artistry in the city has given us a full appreciation for the arts, as well as helped us develop our artistic awareness. Meeting local Spanish students - which are now, in fact, good friends of ours - provided us with the opportunity to observe and adapt their learning styles into our learning here at South Island. And let’s not forget the food - in addition to learning to cook a three course traditional Spanish meal in the prestigious Escola Superior d’Hostelaria de Barcelona, we have had the chance to try many famous Spanish dishes, ranging from pinchos to the group’s favourite crema catalana. The photos and postcards you see of the city can only give you a glimpse of the beauty that we have witnessed - the beauty which is the city of Barcelona.
(South Island is the name of my school)
Thanks everyone - the article has been sent off (it's 11:30 pm here, but oh well). Barcelona was amazing :)

Open Question: please edit my short poem (a glass rose)?
yo peoples, i have to write a first draft of an ending poem (i'll explain what that is in a bit) and i was hoping to get some feedback for this poem. please note that im trying a new style this time, and im only 13, so it might not be the best. BUT STILL BE BRUTALLY HONEST!!!!!
so anyway, an anding poem is the poem that we will put at the end of our poetry book (a portfolio of all the poems we've written for the class so far), and its kinda like a closure. that's probably not the best explanation, but it's the best i got.
He handed her a glass rose,
As blue as her eyes,
And as beautiful as her smile and exclaimed,
“For you, Love,
A rose that will never die.”
She took the rose and gave him a knowing smile.
“But that is the beauty of life,
My dear angel,
We must value everything
Before the time comes when we must
Utter it fare well.”
thanx!
